Mark your calendars, Prime day dates have been confirmed and it’s fast approaching! So here are all our best tips and advice to make the most of your money for all the travel tech, gear, and accessories you want.
When is Prime Day?
This year Prime Day will fall on 16 – 17th July so get your travel wish lists ready to get the most money possible before you jet off.
What time do the Prime Day Deals Start?
Prime Day officially starts at 3 am Eastern time, so that’s 8 am for the UK. The event runs for 48 hours, with deals from both Amazon and retailers meaning you can hopefully grab a bargain and save yourself some money on your travel equipment.
Is Prime Day Only for Prime Members?
In short, yes. Prime day is only for Prime members, however, there are ways around this. For example, you can save money on membership using your friend or family member’s membership. Or you could sign up for a free 30-day trial available for new accounts, or a new email address if you’ve had one before.
Prime membership does come with a lot of benefits, but We are not here to sign you up. By signing up for the trial, you can access the sale, but remember to cancel your membership to avoid any surprise renewal charges. To avoid unexpected subsequent charges, I add a reminder to cancel into my phone’s calendar the day before and the day of to be sure that I cancel in time.
Is Prime Day Worth it?
Well, Yes and no it depends on what you’re wanting and if you’re prone to impulse purchases and buyer’s remorse. Personally, we are not prone to impulse buys, as we contemplate and overthink every purchase we make, but we know many people are. Prime Day can be a total waste of time and money if you are not organised and give in to impulses, as you can end up buying products you don’t want or need for your travels, all because it was on sale and you thought you were saving money.
Amazon Prime Day Wish List Top Tips
Make An Amazon Prime Wish List
Our top tip on how to have a successful Prime Day and avoid any unnecessary buys is to make a wish list. While we do often talk about wish lists for our money saving tips, Amazon makes it super easy to create your own wish lists.
When creating your list, you should consider making it a couple of days before Prime Day, just so you can add what you need and add everything before the rush of the day. This also helps if you’re like us and forget everything, and minimises the risk of missing key items from your list and missing out on the savings.
Add Multiple Versions Of Products From Different Suppliers
Another tip for creating a wish list would be to add a couple of versions or the product you want from different suppliers as not everything will be included in Prime Day, however we are sure there will be something similar or the exact same product by a supplier that is, this way you can hedge your bets and guarantee a saving.
Share With Family and Friends
Our final wish list tip is to share your list with your friends or travel buddies, as they could have items on theirs that you want too.
They could also have some recommendations on brands to look at or alternative products to look for. If you don’t have friends who you are going travelling with to compare Amazon wish lists with, well you now do as you can look at ours on our website, where we can offer all the travel tips you need to get sorted.
How To Make The Most Out Of Amazon Prime Wish List?
A way to make the most of your wish list, we would create an actual pen and paper list with some really vague products on it such as:
- Waterproof Travel backpack
- Day backpack
- Camera lens
- iPad case
- Cable organiser
- Water bottles
This technique helps us when creating a list as we can then physically tick off what we have added. This saves time thinking of the details and brands you want before you get looking and researching on Amazon. Again this makes sure you don’t miss anything from your list and miss out on bagging a bargain.
Is Every Deal On Prime Day Good?
Although the products you are considering are on sale, how do you know if it is actually a deal? Many retailers will participate in Prime Day, but they don’t offer you their best prices or the deal isn’t as good as it may seem.
Do Your Own Research
When it comes to sales, and actually saving money, you should always be checking prices. Although from your wishlist you will be researching an item’s price, however you’re human and the previous prices can be hard to remember. Don’t be fooled by the massive Prime Day hype and clever sales marketing, take an extra step before you buy.
How To Find The Best Price?
Camel Camel Camel
The easiest step is to take a second to Google the items you’re considering so you can see the price across multiple stores, but another way to check your deals is to use the site Camelcamelcamel.
This site tracks Amazon’s prices over time, so you are able to see if they have just ended a sale or lower prices right before Prime Day to try and make more money from the extra traffic on Amazon. All you need to do is to paste the Amazon link or ASIN (found in the Product Information section on the Amazon product page) into Camelcamelcamel’s search bar. Then they will show you that item’s lowest recorded price, its average price, and how frequently the price fluctuates. It gives you all the information you need to make an informed decision on your shopping spree.
There are some deals, such as Amazon’s special Lightning Deals, that aren’t included in the pricing history, but it is still useful to see what the products on your wishlist have sold for in the past.
Keepa
Another way to check for your best prices is Keepa, which is also available as an extension on your browser that shows the recent price history for products directly on the Amazon page so you don’t have to open a new tab and saves you an extra step.
However, please take this caveat that these services may not work 100% of the time. But spending a couple of extra minutes to check the price of a product just before Prime Day or any sale for that matter is really helpful and can stop you from having any regret about making a rash purchase.
Using both of the tools mentioned above together can help you avoid any mistakes and conclude whether or not a deal is worth your money.
Final Thoughts
It is easy to fall into a trap during events like Prime Day or other flash sales, so to save your money on your travel purchases, follow our Prime Day tips, get organised, and take the extra step to check prices. You may see something that looks like a great deal but is it? And do you really need it? Did you intend on buying it? Or is it an impulse buy that you don’t need which will clutter up your travel bag?
When Prime Day begins you only have two days to get what you want and some deals will sell out, so it does come with time pressure which results in people making rushed decisions, so don’t fall for the free regret that comes with many purchases on Prime Day. Please also remember that this isn’t your only chance to get yourself a great deal.
Retailers are constantly in sales, so if you miss Prime Day, don’t fear, other sales will come later in the year. There is always Black Friday and Cyber Monday too, which we can also pull together more tips on how to make some savings and avoid overpaying for products.
